Chaohu Lake, once known as Nanchao, Juchao Lake, commonly known as Jiaohu Lake. The lakes in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River are located in the central part of Anhui Province. They are surrounded by three counties, Hefei, Chaohu, Feidong, Feixi and Lujiang. They are 54.5 kilometers in length from east to west, 15.1 kilometers in width from north to south, and 181 kilometers in length along the lakeshore. The largest water area is about 825 square kilometers, with a maximum volume of 481 billion cubic meters and a maximum depth of 0.98-7.98 meters. Although Chaohu Lake is far less than Hulun Lake, China's fifth largest freshwater lake, in terms of water area and water storage capacity, it has always been considered as one of the five largest freshwater lakes in China.
The lake water is mainly recharged by surface runoff. The basin area is 12938 square kilometers. The catchment area includes Hefei, Chaohu, Feidong, Feixi, Lujiang, Shucheng and Wuwei. There are 35 rivers along the lake. Among them, the larger rivers are Hangbu River, Baishitian River, Paihe River, Nanfei River, Pangyang River, Zhegao River and Zhaohe River. From south, West and North into the lake, and then out of Chengguan Lake, Chaohu City, through the southeast flow of Yuxi River to Yuxi Estuary into the Yangtze River.
The main famous aquatic products of Chaohu Lake are silver fish, beautiful white shrimp and lake crab, which are known as "three fresh foods of Chaohu Lake". In addition, in the fish resources, Lake squid dominates the production of Chaohu Lake fishery. Red cockroach, four big domestic fish, carp, crucian carp and other fish are all high-quality fresh species in Chaohu Lake.
Chaohu Lake area can be navigable all year round in non-severe drought year. Along the lake are Chaoxian, Sanbing, Huailin, Mawei River, Tangxi, Shikou, Zhongmiao and other ports and wharfs.
Chaohuan can cut off the Yangtze River and control Hefei in the north. The military status of Chaohu Lake has always been a "contested place under the world". After the founding of the People's Republic, senior leaders such as Liu Bocheng and Tao Yong visited Chaohu several times. There have been many famous wars in history.
Chaohu Lake, the total length of the lake is 54.5 kilometers. It is 26 kilometers from Chaohu Gate to Xiayang Village, 10 kilometers from Xiayang Village to Zhongmiao, and 18.5 kilometers from Zhongmiao to Jingchuanwei. The maximum width is the maximum distance between the two banks perpendicular to the length direction. When the water level is 10 meters, the width is 21 kilometers. The average width is the lake area divided by the length of the lake. When the water level is 12 meters, the lake area is 820 square kilometers. It can be concluded that the average width of the lake is 15.1 kilometers.
Shoreline length: when the water level is 6 meters, the shoreline length is 144.5 kilometers; when the water level is 10 meters, the shoreline length is 173 kilometers; when the water level is 13 meters, the shoreline length is 181 kilometers.
Lake area: when the water level is 6 meters, the area is 560 square kilometers; when the water level is 8 meters, the area is 755 square kilometers; when the water level is 10 meters, the area is 774 square kilometers; when the water level is 12 meters, the area is 820 square kilometers; when the water level is 13 meters, the area is 825 square kilometers.
Average water depth: when the water level is 6 meters, the water depth is 0.29 meters; when the water level is 10 meters, the water depth is 4.09 meters; when the water level is 13 meters, the water depth is 7.55 meters.
The maximum depth of Lake water: when the water level is 6 meters, the maximum water depth is 0.98 meters; when the water level is 10 meters, the maximum water depth is 4.98 meters; when the water level is 13 meters, the maximum water depth is 7.98 meters.
Lake volume: when the water level is 6 meters, the volume is 350 million cubic meters; when the water level is 8 meters, the volume is 1.717 billion cubic meters; when the water level is 10 meters, the volume is 3.252 billion cubic meters; when the water level is 2 meters, the volume is 4.811 billion cubic meters.
