Haihe River is the largest river system in North China and one of the seven major rivers in China. The Haihe River system consists of the main stream of the Haihe River and the five tributaries of the North Canal, Yongding River, Daqing River, Ziya River and South Canal. The main stream of Haihe River, also known as Guhe River, starts at Jingang Bridge in Tianjin and enters the Bohai Bay at Dagukou. With Weihe River as its source, it is 1,050 kilometers long. Its main stream is 76 kilometers long below Jingang Bridge, and its channel is narrow and winding.
The Haihe River Basin is bordered by the Bohai Sea in the east, the Yellow River in the south, the Taihang Mountains in the west, and the southern margin of Inner Mongolia Plateau in the north. It covers eight provinces and regions, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Henan, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia. The total area of the Haihe River Basin is 265,000 square kilometers, accounting for 3.3% of the total area of the country. Among them, the mountainous area accounts for 54.1%, the plain for 45.9%, the population is more than 70 million, the cultivated land is 180 minllion mu.
Since the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the "Project for the Eradication of the Haihe River" has been implemented, and the flood has been harnessed to a certain extent.
