Chinese Academy of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Sciences: China Water Conservancy: Today in History (1949-2010)

On February 27, 1962, the State Council issued the Notice on Soil and Water Conservation in Reclamation, Mining, Construction of Water Conservancy and Transportation Projects. It is required that the exploitation of wasteland should not hinder soil and water conservation, combine current interests with long-term interests, and strictly prohibit the destruction of forests and pastures. For mining and construction of water conservancy and transportation projects, the relevant provisions of the Interim Outline for Soil and Water Conservation of the State Council should be conscientiously implemented. 

On February 27, 1965, Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply Project was completed. This project is mainly built to solve the water difficulties of compatriots in Hong Kong and Kowloon. Construction started on February 20, 1964, with a total length of 83 km. The project consists of six river barrages, eight-stage electric water pumping stations, two regulating reservoirs, 16 km artificial channels and utilization of the Shima River. After the completion of the project, in addition to water supply to Hong Kong, more than 100,000 mu of cultivated land in Dongguan and Baoan counties were irrigated. 

On February 27, 1972, the State Council approved the Report of the Ministry of Hydropower on Further Treatment of the Water Blockage in the Huaihe River. In the approval document, the State Council pointed out: "The water blockage in the Huaihe River is so serious that it is not allowed. Regarding only part and ignoring the overall situation, the result will inevitably be neither overall nor local. We should consolidate and develop the achievements we have made in the past 20 years and firmly oppose the erroneous tendencies that are not conducive to the overall situation of Huaihe River. 

On February 27, 1975, the Ministry of Water and Electricity, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Coal and the Ministry of Commerce jointly issued the Opinions on Grasping the Barrier Clearance Work of the Huaihe River, requesting that the task of clearing the main stream and tributaries of the Huaihe River be basically completed within one or two years. 

On February 27, 2009, the commencement ceremony of the North Trunk Line of the Wanjiazhai Yellow River Diversion Project was solemnly held in Datong City, Shanxi Province, marking the full start of the construction of the North Trunk Line Project. The Yellow River diversion project into Shanxi Province is the largest water conservancy project ever built in Shanxi Province. The general trunk line, the southern trunk line and the connecting section have been completed. The North Trunk Line Project starts from Xiatuzhai Water Diversion Sluice in Pianguan County and passes through Pinglu, Shuozhou, Shanyin, Huairen to Huaibao Reservoir in the southern suburb of Tong. The total length of the line is 16.11 km. The annual design diversion is 560 million m3. The recent annual diversion scale is 296 million m3, and the estimated investment is 4.86 billion yuan.
